IREX Europe project partner Youth Leadership Development Foundation (YLDF) has been honoured as among the ten most effective youth initiatives in the Arab region by the League of Arab States. At the recent Arab Economic, Development and Social Summit in Egypt, the League of Arab Youth Forum saluted YLDF for its valuable contribution to supporting youth and youth empowerment policies in Yemen.
Gabool Al-Mutawakle, General Manager of YLDF, received the Certificate of Appreciation at the event. YLDF strives to encourage and support Yemeni youth to participate in the social, economic and political development of their country through vocational, leadership, communication and life skills development. Their team has been working for over eight years in youth empowerment and human rights education and has recently established the country-wide Youth for Human Rights Forum.
YLDF partners with IREX Europe in the Camera as Voice project, an initiative funded by the UK Foreign Office that uses film as dialogue about human rights, globalization, and radicalism. The project empowers rural and urban youth with new technology skills as well as new and creative outlets for self-expression and mentors youth organizations in Aden, Taiz, Hadramot, and Ibb to build their capacities in youth training and leadership programs.
YLDF and IREX Europe have also implemented the three year Yemen Young Women’s Leadership Programme, funded by the UK Foreign Office, which built the skills of young women for civil society and media careers. Young women were able to receive training in English, media techniques, and life and leadership skills,. They were also placed in internships at NGOs or media outlets and received further training to develop their professional and leadership potential.
